  1. Nice to see. I tested Win8 on one machine and also found that all seems good. I'm running Win7 on my development computer but I could see no reason for using Win8. As always when something new comes along their are a long row of skeptics but I think Win8 will be quite nice. Its faster and the new theme is quite nice.

  2. @Roland, the debate is XP development support (2010) vs. 2012 with theoretical XP deployment that doesn't exist yet.

(But in any case, XP is better for high-end graphics with OpenGL.)

Aha... okay. Well 2010 is the way to go then. I will not debate if XP is better or not as you are the expert on that. I believe you. But in any case Win7 is the only choice we got for the future.

  3. This seems to render out in a debate about XP or Win7. No matter if you thinks that XP is 10%, 15% or 20% faster than Win7 (which it is not) there is just baloney even suggesting to keep development for XP or development with VS2008. They will not be supported by Microsoft in the near future. That's it! Fewer and fewer users will even have XP or VS2008 as its not sold of supported. Even talking about that alternative for a "modern futurist game engine" is really ridiculous. Going with Win7 and VS2010 is kind of okay at this moment as Win8 + VS2012 is so fresh, But certainly they are the future whether you like it or not. But Win7 is VS2010 is OK. That's my thought about this.

  4. Thanks for sharing your past and thoughts. I found it very interesting to read as I could recognize what you are telling. I have been through (or are in) same process of making mistakes. Maybe its so that one has to go through those phases to get somewhere as almost everyone makes them. Can it be so that a really good and stable base has to be built on mistakes. I tend to believe that. Its great to talk about them as it may end in someone else avoids making at least some of them.

I could not agree more about animation. Animation seems to be one of the most important things in the game of the reasons you describes. I have taken this approach. To get somewhere I have bought some descent basic animations as walk and run. I now use those and is concentrating on the game logic and structure. When that's in place I (or more precisely me and ChrisV) will add the animations that are missing and polish the existing ones. The same goes for the models and art. Last time I tried to get a game done I ended up in never getting somewhere while making end-perfection on detail right from the start.

    Great reading :)

  5. Finally getting somewhere now that I meet ChrisV. And he's a very good partner. So now I'm coding and coding that my fingers glows while he is taking care of the art. I'm really exited about this and very happy with the way things are going. Besides that we have a good chemistry, we also have the advantage to be in the same timezone, which has been a real trouble when trying to cooperate outside Europe.
