  1. For first release I would like to include: first dungeon from mdgun first island + some models the third person camera from Slas. Optional: menu fade in/out game logo at begining simple meteor cutscene earthquake when exit first dungeon Just walking around nothing else.
  2. So this was about Serializer.lua some code i wrote to serialize tables to disk. When game was run from exe all was ok , but crashed when run from editor I dig dipper into this, basically is nothing wrong with the code, Josh disabled some lua features for the sandbox mode in editor, making require function (from lua) not working from the editor. To fix this go in editor: Tools->Options->General and disable Sandbox Lua
  3. Is great , lets use that for 0.1 and improve later. Think we just need the transition from that level to the island map
  4. heh Have plenty of insane ideas, for example we find a mechanism that allows you to move the island in the sky.So you can move island to get to resources, or ram other islands, or land the island.Then build mealtime strategy with clans using islands to battle each other. But think thats not our point here. We just need to have something finished and fun.
  5. Ok let's do like this, 4 people agree. I'll add tasks for: -Meteor shower -Interior of monolith with brushes. Later we could do more underground levels in the island if people wants.
  6. We go with guardian starting theme? Im for it. Then we need a starting place for guardian to spawn, like a monolith or a piramid.Something that slowly rise from the ground maybe.

  8. Like we can go anywhere from there, and we dont have to say much at beginning keep it mysterious. Later, shock!!! the guardian finds out about the tech substrate of magic, and some evil mastermind plan to destroy the world. More shock, in the end the guardian finds out he is the source of the tech magic ad decide to destroy himself to make the world free for life to grow. Or more wild then this. And we keep out of typical fantasy mage
  9. Cool, How do you color that tree ? I can model but i dont know how to color the things.
  10. I liked mdgunns work with the test islands maybe to be similar to that. By the way, make sure island is low poly , map should be fast to load , we dont want 1 minute loading time.
  11. Forth/Fourth has some nice ring to it. Fourth Island maybe and make 4th island somewhat special.
  12. Let us do release 0.1 soon 1 week max 2 weeks from now. The first island ( island Principium map). Fill in island with some models to look good. Third person camera (if Slas has the time to do it), we could include only the first person camera in this release. Menus (not mandatory). Scope is light , no gameplay , just to have something stable to build on.

  14. Fantasy, magic, islands in sky was already choosen. Choose fantasy world setting and enemy types so we can start modeling I gathered what was discussed in forums so far. If i miss something post here.
  15. Well i was thinking something like this. Portals are by default closed, you need some resources you gather on the island to pass through. Special portal that gets you to the hub and back (diablo 2 style) can be used from anywhere but cost a lot of resources. Events from time to time for short amount of time: all portals open one island gets isolated no more way out archipelago gets isolated from neighborhood ones, cant exit arhipelago world wide portal close , you cant even go to hub you enter portal and gets teleported to random island May be too much now that i look at the picture ... but i dont want to finish a level and not go to that island again.
  16. Duh i just lost a wall of text by clicking a link ... whats below is a small part i still remember lol I was thinking how we decide in our project. Since we cannot vote for everything, so will decide chaotically and collaborative. What it matters is just advancing the project. First come first served Like an idea from someone else go and help implement If you implement a mechanic will most likely get in the game, unless breaking parts of the game Activity matters Anyone can call for a vote at anytime One idea could be picked even with few votes if is important , who didnt state opinion means they agree tacitly Pick anothers idea if it has traction even if you might think yours is better Ideas get dropped only if the majority are vocal against it So far i think we doing very well on how we collaborate, we could use discord more for decision making but we ok. Choose common sense, If any comments on above fire away Sorry for slight derail of this thread Lets hear other thoughts on theme from mdgunn, im really fan of this idea with old tech and magic.
  17. Actually choosing a global theme is good and then work around it.I have loads of ideas too. Ok islands has some tech in it and magic , im game Then we could do beside the trees rocks grass some decayed/destroyed mechanical things on the island. Guess some robots could be easy to model if low poly.Dont need to be humanoid all time. Besides this i would really like to keep the portals , will bring a lot of mechanics to game for exploration.
  18. Animal theme looks ok, how about we only use enemy animals? Or enemies made from stone, golems. No other humans beside the wizards
  19. Portals One or more portals per island that link to another portal. Lets make this fixed , this will actually form the map , but there will be no reason to us drawing the map. The player will form a mental map by traveling through portals , we should only name the islands What you think about this ?
  20. Keeping skils simple is good. Islands form an archipelago imo we should not restrict movement based on levels .. it cuts the feeling of exploration. Other mechanic should limit moving from island to island , something regarding portals ? Some ideas i got now: Maybe to activate a portal you need a certain amount of precious stones or whatever else. From time to time , the portals open for a small amount of time, you can get stuck on the island if they close, and need precious stone to move.
  21. Tried the map , looks epic And made me think why we need third person ? first person like skyrim seem to work fine for now. Use time to animate some monsters then main character.
  22. Imo we still hammering basic stuff, want something we can build on. For now we have to have a first map and character to just walk around, hope we do this by end of weekend. This will answer a lot of questions that now are not clear. Then we can invent some mechanics , i think the theme of island world in the sky can bring some unique ideas. Here is one idea for interesting mechanic: there are some small magic creatures on the island, they are the source of magic , a wizard can cast spells only in cross proximity to them, and they wonder around and can be killed Im pretty sure we can come up with some cool stuff
  23. Hmm , I can agree with that. Can you do something in the style of the current wizard? Then can keep current wizard as placeholder with no animation. And focus on map, gamecreator your ok with that?
  24. This is good , bright colored logo later. Next steps rig animate wizard so we can make the first proof of concept map.
  25. Cheers looking great , i think we may need to wait for the wizard model to be finished by gamecreator and then test/put them in the same map. Maybe we can make the character smaller then is currently. By looking at blend file i think it may be too many poligons, but is good we have some tests.
