  1. Here in the states, if the fall is unusually warmer we call that a Indian summer. Maybe that is what he meant. If so from now on we could call it a leadwerks summer.

    Amazing Tools

@Benton, I do not think you would be able to see any problem with anything intersecting with the teapot because, there is probably less than one cm in difference. I do not think you could see a sword,gun,finger,ect,ect... intersecting with the pot. If the difference was alot larger I would agree with you.
  3. I swear i have seen somebody use this in a video a while ago. I can not find the video any more. If I remember right someone was showing bullet physics and they were using this pack. I think they had animations but I can not quite remember.
  4. I have been away for a little bit. I became rather tired of reading after page 6 and have now skipped to the end so I do apologize if I am repeating what someone else has said. Even though I am like some others here and at this time have no use for phone games. I will gladly buy the initial release of LE3D. Why you may ask? Because I know that money will help secure the future support for leadwerks. A lot of people here for some time have been crying for the release of Leadwerks3D. This is my question to those people. If Leadwerks3D was released tomorrow and it had every feature you could imagine? How soon until you release your game? One month? Two months? I doubt it. So my suggestion is to get as much done as you can. Most likely by the time you are ready for LE3D it will be done. With some nice features that Josh has been slaving over.
  5. I think your right. Although it should be fine to add weapons and none animated thing to your characters using bones. You should not have to apply bone weights by code. If you use the same skeleton for every character then you can just weight each mesh for the one bone hierarchy. And I do not necessarily think you have to weld the vertices using code. Every body part that you want to interchange would have to have vertext groups. If you name each vertex group the same for each body part they should occupy the same x,y,z. Say if you want to be able to change the heads on the body. When you model each head, where ever you want them to connect you would make sure to have the same amount of vertice. Probably somewhere in the neck. So name the bottom loop(vertexgroup) of the neck the same as the top loop (vertex group) of the body. Or if you wanted to combine the vertex groups by code then you could make a game where you could chop off arms, legs, heads, torso pretty easy.

    Snow Day

    shadows could use some work
  7. I must admit, Leadwerks balls are quite nice.
  8. Hey Josh, everything looks great. Would it be possible to import a model and convert it to CSG?
  9. I do not know if it is really his fault for bumping this thread. One of the biggest problems here is some people will go back and edit old posts and that brings it to the front. I really wish IPB had an option that mandatory showed that a posted was edited.
  10. No this is just theory, and sorry I can not test it my self right now because my computers are still packed up since I am still remodeling my house. I was doing the same things you are doing about a year ago and, running into the same problems. I was never really kean on having a underlying animated mesh like you would have with the characters shin and foot mesh under the boot. Everything I have learned always pointed to creating one clean mesh. So I decided to go in a different route. Instead of parenting bones of different body parts or accessories that had to deform, I decided to merge vertices. Now let me explain. For every character there is one bone rig. But the mesh of the character is cut up into different sections. Head, upper body, hands, lower body, feet. Now each mesh section is weight painted to the same bone rig. This way my character editor can just merge the vertices of the head to the neck and everything will animate nicely. Now realize that say each boot will have to have the exact number of vertices as the shin, or hand to wrist and so on. Now my character editor is not actual finished because I am a modeler not a programmer. So I was paying someone to make it for me. My first game is not going to need a character editor so I decided to put it on a shelf and let it marinate till the next game. Now saying this I know it will work because this is how a character editor that I used a few years ago worked. Now after most people watch the video their going to say "I wonder if I could export a character from Iclone3,Iclone4,Iclone5". Sorry you can't. And I have tried several times to contact to ask or beg that they allow game developers to use their tools.
  11. I would not try to parent the boot bone directly to the shin and foot bones. I would name the bones in the boot the same as the bones in the shin and foot. That way the boot will have the same animation data as the foot. Then parent the boot like you did the weapons. Have separate bones attached to the mesh of the boot and foot. Then you can parent those bones and the boot should follow nicely.
  12. Yep. I think it's a good idea. Why can't we just use the controllers that are already out there now. Bluetooth is bluetooth right? What is stopping us from trying to make some drivers for a logitec bluetooth controller for a smart phone or tablet?
  13. Even with sales going down, studios are still making a lot of money. There is a huge difference between the amount of money that they are making and the amount of money that it costs to make a game. So sales have to drop a hell of a lot more for studios to get to the breaking point. There is a good many games out there (console) that make more money than blockbuster movies. And yet the majority of them(console games) cost less to make than independent movie. The real problem with games being to expensive is there is a lot of **** games out there. Or maybe we are just played out. Over the years there have been a lot of games made. How many different types of games can there be? I don't know, maybe we are just becoming a little more jaded every time a game comes out.
  14. The iPad3 will not have a 47 inch screen. I really do not think that the mobile market will over take the console. People like to games on their big screen tv along with their home theater system. Also I do not think the pc will over take the console. As you and I have stated before the majority of people in the world are not to bright when it comes to computers. They do not like to worry if their game will be able to play or not because of the hardware that they know nothing about. How many people have come here wondering why leadwerks will not work on their brand new computer. All they have to do is buy a game (console) and it will work. I truthfully think that there will be a market for all. You are proving that every year it is getting easier and easier to make games. So why not try to tap into that billion dollar industry.
  15. Yes, that is something you can play on a road trip. Or while waiting for the bus. But when your battery is dead your going to want to play a game on a bigger screen. It would be such a waist of nice big flat screen tv's
  16. Yes but your not really going to play GTA with MOM and DAD. I am sure they would love it if they were watching their child play GTA and then all the sudden their little bundle of joy picks up a hooker in the street. Or runs her over with a car.
  17. Before touch screen phones and internet phones the mobile phone market was not doing as well as it is today. I suppose a person could look at touch screen phones as kind of like a gimmick. The junk that we have in phones today is not really needed. But it is new, and new sells. What do you think will happen when phones are fast enough? Which is not far. What kind of gimmicks will they come up with? Gadgets sell, and that is fairly obvious with all the tens of thousands of useless apps out there.
  18. You keep putting some stats out there about console game sales are down but you fail to see why. As console games sales go down. Console game RENTAL goes up. Way up. Also used game sales are way up. In a lower economy people do not like buying a expensive game that they can beat in a few hours.
  19. At first I was kind of confused about the Wii and it's initial rise in popularity. The graphics went backwards and it's not like playstation did not try for years to get different types of controllers to take off. Then I realized that they tapped into a different type of game market. Family's buy Wii so they can play games with their younger children. The wii is just a different type of product for a different type of consumer. The kinect is pretty much the same.
  20. I definitely think that there is a potential since there are millions and millions of phones. Maybe instead of paying 50,000 dollars in advertising, We could pay an actor to get kicked off of a plane while playing the game.
  21. Xbox, playstation, apple are just like any other company in the world. They like making money. That being said, I do not need a license to make a game. However yes, I need a license to sell a game for the consoles. If I, you, or anybody makes a good enough game, they(consoles) will gladly make money off of it. It would be extremely counter productive for me if I make a game for a pc, or apple,etc... And then that game take off and gain popularity and then I take that game to the consoles and just maybe they say yes. Then what? Now I have to find a different engine for the consoles. Learn all of their commands,gui,ect... More time more money. As I said before, I think that you will find that since palystaion3 and xbox has been out for a while, the people that want them already have them. So it is just natural that sales level off and drop. Also for games I think you will find that businesses like gamefly and netflix game rental is the reason for game sales drop. I mean its not like you can rent a mobile app.
  22. I guess it is true if you say so. Unfortunately this is a make or break feature for me. I have a blackberry. They are not as popular as a Iphone or droid so I am sure they have more apps and games than blackberry. As I look in the official blackberry app store there are over 24,000 apps and over 1,700 games. I wonder if there are games that get lost and never make it in the sea of mobile games already out there?
  23. Yes maybe total units have gone down for a console, but for good games money sales have gone up. According to xbox magazine modern warfare3 grossed 775 million dollars in the first five days. I think one of the problems is **** games. The other is a sore economy. People may not be able to afford a 60 or 70 dollar game, but they can sure afford 2.99 for a app that makes fart noises. In the third link that you posted it shows sales for that month at 1.53 billion. I do not know about you but I would not mind tapping into that market. I am not saying any game that I make will ever make 775 million or 775 hundred, but I would like to at least have the ability. The whole reason that you are creating a new engine is so you can increase your consumer market, right? So why put a cap on ours?
  24. This statement is a little loaded and I will tell you why. In a bad economy people feel they need a phone more than they need a gaming device. Also people update their phone every year or two. The playstaion3 has been out for a while and for the most part who ever is going to buy one already has one. Same for the xbox. You made a comment on a separate thread that shows proof that consoles will never die and be more popular than pc games. I think you said something like the majority of people in the world are computer illiterate, and that is why you are making certain features so you can have a larger target audience for your software. Regular people just want to buy a game and have it work. They do not want to know or worry about if their video card is good enough. They just want to plug and play.If you want to go by sales, I am sure you will find that games for consoles out sale everything else put together.
  25. When I get back home at the end of the week I will post a link to the free app I use(I can not remember the name). It even has a option to keep the topology. It is mainly used for laser scanner mesh, so poly count will not be a issue. I have had mesh over six million triangles. I am not sure what you are trying to decimate. If you are trying to decimate a mesh that you sculpted you are not going to have a very good topology. The best way to reduce the poly count for a sculpted mesh is to create a new mesh with re-topo tools.
