mikedee
Hey there ! I've been doing the tutorials for the leadwerks engine, however I can't download the required files. Every time I try to access the download link (for example:http://developer.leadwerks.com/Tutorials/CPP/Abstract_File_System_Files.zip) it asks me for a username and password and I can't download anything. I tried putting my forum credentials but they don't seem to work. Fantastic engine btw !

mikedee
well that's not good at all, I'm only using the evaluation version and I'm going through the tutorials so I can buy the engine later once I'm comfortable with it. I don't really understand why the tutorials are restricted to the registered version only, but oh well.

mikedee
which eval are you using? perhaps, you should buy this fantastic engine and not download evaluation verison from pirate forums, DAMN. I'm using a "pirate version" to try out the engine at it's fullest, and like I said, I will buy the registered version once I'm comfortable with the engine. Btw "wh1sp3r" I didn't get it from a "pirate forum", but thanks for the tip, you sure know more about that stuff than I do. I wonder if you're not using the same "evaluation version" as I am. I wonder if you can read the part below wh1sp3r's name where it says hes not ... As for your other claim about when you are "comfortable with the egine".. you'll forgive me if I have my doubts. mikedee
Oh yes, no problem at all, I understand why they would keep some sections of the site for registered users only (and it's actually a great idea to motivate people to buy the engine), the problem is that in my case I want to know and understand the engine very well so that I'm fully aware of what I can do with it and what I can't before I fork 200$ on it. I'm a professional developer and as you can imagine I can't use pirated software. I have a tight budget and I pay for all my studio's expenses myself, and while 200$ isn't much at all (even less than the studio rent) I need to watch for every penny I spend. But oh well, from what I've seen from the tutorials, videos, and some small experiences I did, the engine is very strait forward and is actually much easier to work with and is a lot more powerful than the engines I've worked with previously (including our own engine) so I'll probably buy the SDK. Keep up the good work guies ! PS: about wh1sp3r, just because he has the full version now it doesn't mean he didn't have the "evaluation version" before he bought it. macklebee
I need to apply that logic to everything in life. Hey guys at bestbuy, I am going to test a 60" flatscreen tv and just use it until I feel comfortable enough to buy it. Man, with this new system I can get alot of stuff for christmas to "test" until I feel comfortable enough to actually legally buy it. Wow, I wonder why no one has ever thought of this course of action before? I see no reason that this shouldn't apply to everything... gordonramp
Macklebee, To be fair, having a Demo is so that potential Users 'can' get a feel for the program. There is a big difference between a 60" tv and a piece of software. That's why games have Demos, to give people a taste of the whole thing. mikedee, Apparently there is a demo of version 2.3 coming out in about a month. That should give you a better idea if the Leadwerks Engine is for you. And yep, I think these Forums are great. Marleys Ghost
Macklebee, To be fair, having a Demo is so that potential Users 'can' get a feel for the program. The official demo was not the issue, I used the official demo, as I did for other engines when making my decision on which would serve my needs, I also read reviews. There is a big difference between a 60" tv and a piece of software. And that difference is? can't be the price as a Sharp LC-60E77UN 60" AQUOS LCD TV will set you back about $2000 and the latest version of 3DS Max is ~$3,495.00... Let's not romaticize it by calling it pirating. Let's call it for what it is: stealing. But the problem is everyone has this opinion that since software isn't a tangible thing and they are just downloading it from the internet, that its not stealing. But of course it is. Its just harder to police software than a physical object. But I see absolutely no difference in pirating the software and someone stealing $200 out of Josh's wallet. There is no rationalization that is defendable for stealing someone else's property, whether it be a tv, software, or a turkey sandwich. It's stealing pure and simple.
