  1. http://www.businessinsider.com/ballmer-its-called-windows-8-and-its-coming-in-2012-2011-5

Yeh - 2012. Windows 7 got officially released in 2009.

Microsoft released a statement denying "Ballmer's" rant and that they have put him back in his padded cell; however, I think his use of the words 'next year' are to precise and clinical to be his usual rambling.

I am still clutching my XP teddybear and was pondering getting a new computer (so I can keep XP) with WIn7 at the end of the year. MS have thrown a spanner in the works and I will now have to wait and see what Win8 turns out like.

It makes you wonder how soon Windows 9 will arrive.

It is all a bit too much hassle considering the wide use of DRM these days.

Who thinks he was telling the truth?

  2. I only play games because I hate coding. I just find it irritating and boring.

Mark my words - some of you will spend the next year to five years working on a game that you will never finish and will eventually shelve, whilst "puki" is lying on his back all day, every day, playing games. What a life. I did my coding first, conquered the world and can afford to now play games until my ears pop.

  3. Anyway, this is such a girl's bottom of a thread that people should thank me for making it interesting and exciting.

I don't see the excitement - as soon as LE3 is released, Blitz3D will get it by the throat and savage it and all of your little bottom lips will drop like lead balloons.

I could do a new Blitz3D Youtube video if people want some red-hot excitement whilst they wait.

  4. "Lumooja" just bumped it - he now bumped it last - pick on him.

I like the way that 6 people post prior to me and don't get bashed - then "puki" posts and he gets bashed and then "Lumooja" posts and doesn't get bashed.

  5. Great.

One day I will use my copy of UU for something other than being a glorified mesh converter.

ps, hand over the bucket - I need to check that it is not stolen.

  6. Yeh, I sometimes close my eyes and apply pressure to them - I get all sort of trippy effects.

By playing around with pressure and also the time between applying pressure, you can get all sorts of effects - you can even get like a 'negative' of your own eye looking back at you (combination of both of them) whereby you can even see the intricate detail of your iris.

I have done this for ages and just wondered if anyone else does it? I have always assumed that it was just something that I did, but maybe not.

  7. Mmm. This is a bit pointless really. None of you know why he is looking to change from from NOD32 and he hasn't given much info about his requirements for the replacement.

Here is a 2011 Top Ten Reviews comparison:

    http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ppc-index.html?cmpid=4637

NOD32 is certainly highly respected and has been for a long time - Kaspersky is so very often in the Top 3 whenever I see comparison reviews.

Here are the current (April) VB results:

    http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archive/test?recent=1

In honesty, NOD32 and Kaspersky are always going to be good solid solutions - Norton, has really moved back into the big-time since they revamped it, so don't overlook it based on the past.

Panda (and similar (Avast, AVG, etc), I wouldn't totally have faith in - especially if you are moving from NOD32.

NOD32 was often favoured by gamers as it was solid, yet light on resources.

It's always good to look at Certifications going back over several months to see how each solution has faired.

If you look at ZoneAlarm Antivirus in the Top Ten Reviews then it looks dead in the water - Yet, it uses the Kaspersky AV engine. Ofen Virus checkers use the same engines, but it is how fast they apply the updates and how good the engineers are in terms of designing their product to use the particular AV engine. ZoneAlarm being very slow with updating (a bit like Microsoft Security Essentials), whereas NOD32 or the Kaspersky solution itself have very frequent updates coming. So Zonealarm, might be using Kaspersky AV, but it sure as hell does not update the customer at the speed that Kaspersky update their customers.

Why did you want to change from NOD32?

  8. It could just be as simple as a distance check from the enemy to the player (depending on your game level design) and also how soon the enemy starts pursuing the player - so you may not need to worry too much about the pathfinding.

It's just a case of logic really - you may have a set value that is basically a critical distance check so, if the player has exeeded the set distance, then the enemy assumes the player is fleeing and will then home in on the player - when they are within a set distance you can them deem the enemy to be confronting the player - the easiest way being to just assume the player is going to turn and face the enemy based on the enemy being so close- other than that you'll have to overtake the player based on the direction they are heading in and then have your enemy turn and face the player when he has overtaken the player (could get messy though, if the player is not interested in the confrontation and is just changing direction to shake off the enemy), so you could just force the player to slow down as though the enemy has grabbed them - again, this is purely done on a distance check (or collision check if you want) - then you deactivate the 'grab' on the player to allow both player and enemy to have a scrap (or to allow the player to try and flee again).

  9. I use a lot of Half-Life 2, Doom 3, Dark Messiah and Oblivion media. I totally love using Source Engine SMDs - they are just so cute to use in Blitz3D.

The reason why I do it is because it makes my stuff look totally awesome. As long as you don't distribute them, then I say go for it - make your project look hot as hell.

    EDIT:

I have a ton of Dexsoft and Arteria3D media too, but I like using the commercial animated SMD models as animated media of that quality can cost thousands.

  10. This is what I hate about LE and why I still use Blitz3D. I just hate commands and methods changing. Having to go through 20 lines of code that I hand-wrote to scour for what needs changing really hurts.

Does anyone else find it annoying or is it just me? I know I complain a lot, but this really is a terminal problem for me and keeps pushing me back to the warm teet of Blitz3D.

  11. I have Steam.

What do I get to join the group? What goes on? What are you lot doing?

I joined The Lord of the Rings Online and after a month or two (maybe one) they were begging me to leave because I talked and complained too much. Well, I complained that not all quests could be solo'd - people kept having a go at me because the whole point of the game was to play in a Fellowship. It was a bit of a stumbling block as I liked playing on my own and kept squeaking for them to allow me to play the Fellowship quests on my own at a lower difficulty.

Plus, I kind of suck at online games as I tend to kill my own team by accident and people hate me and want me to leave. It is purely out of over-excitement, not on purpose. With Counterstrike, I found the colours confusing and would often shoot the wrong people. One day, everyone was following me - but I did not know this - I just joined a server and joined in - they must have thought I was good or something as I joined on my own and, anyway, I turned round after going through a door way, saw like 5-6 people right behind me and blew them away in sheer panic. I basically just quit the game when they barrage of swearing erupted in my direction.

So, in a nutshell, is there any point in me joining? It's not like I need to, so don't feel bad if you think it is a bad idea.
