self shadowing as option

Actually it seems shadows on objects make self shadowing on object it self.

Sometimes self shadowing is not really needed like in sime decoration buildings or sturctures, it won't make big difference, sometimes on characters depeding on game type, better not use it.

Could this be optionnal ? it could also save lot fo frame rate i think.

But not having it in self model and only environment could be better looking sometimes :

Right model without shadowing on itself looks better and as background decoration it's ok.

Would have been great to have it project some shadow around and not on itself.

We use a uniform lighting model which means surfaces are always self-shadowing. There are no tricks or gimmicks, just natural lighting everything. The reason you screenshot looks bad above is because the normals are messed up. Try calculating the normals in the model editor using the angular threshold algorithm, setting the threshold to a low value, like 15 degrees.

The proper thing to do here is increase the shadowmap resolution.

Having a texture on that will also help, as it will confuse the eye so you can't see the obvious aliasing.

How do we do that ?

In Appearence tab for static level models or stuff the there is only one option :

Shadow : none, static, dynamic.

Nothing for resolution shadowmap, and no shadow map resolution choice even in Options/video also.

Some future LE3 improvement so ?
