Blob shadows

A simple cube and a simple character.

When not using shadow i got some 30 FPS

If i add an animated or Fixed shadow the FPS drops to 11-15 FPS.

 

Could it be some lot more fast shadow system even with bad quality ?

 

(I'm waiting for Texture projection that will allow to use the standard simple "Blob" shadow system to avoid loosing too much frame rate)

You could always enable SSAO (available soon) and disable shadow casting for the character. That's basically how Amnesia does their lighting.

About SSAO, it's full scene stuff, not character specific, not sure it will work on animated characters, and not sure the result to be good on characters also.

 

I would prefer Texture projection and blob shadow will be another cheap/Fast solution seeing if we see something better.

Could it be some very low resolution shadows for characters ?

Like in AAA game where you can choose shadow quality ?

Why not option to have shadows not smoothed with ver low map resolution ?

 

Such Brute shadow dropping frame rate at 50% is too much cost.

 

Even if not now, for some future LE3 version perhaps ?
