  1. That's great news, I had considered developing for andriod like 2 years ago when I got my old phone but none of the games at the time screamed out at me as particularly fun lol (im a late bloomer ) I have an iphone4s which is arriving any minute and my wife is getting on xperia something next week so will have both Andriod & Ios to work with so figured it would be a smart move to develop for them using LE and use any funds to help my bigger project. V.glad to know I dont need to pay for extra licenses until im nearing success xD
  2. Ok this may be odd query but im unsure. Am i able to develop a project for andriod/ios before I own the licenses. basically build and test for windows/mac then purchase the andriod/ios licenses close to completion and just convert it or do I need to start and reimport all the assets etc.
  3. LCP2 is my main LE3 project. I plan to look into mobile gaming though so setting up some tests for that. Main focus on level design with Leadwerks 3. Overall though my main time gets focused on my UDK project and a project im donating some time to.
  4. Well that was hell, I figured i'd read the book in a day or two and get the assignment done. Leaving plenty of time to work on my projects....well that'd work out. Basically the book is insanely boring and I only finished reading it last night (whilst falling asleep). Today I sat down to focus on the assignment, but come 9am my wife and eldest were of to town for some holiday shopping, my son was doing his last day of school term and my youngest was home with me. Took me about an hour or so before I could get my work done but it's done. Now I took a leap, I ordered an Iphone, not an Iphone5 an Iphone4s nothing upfront contract which is quite nice. I haven't had an iphone or ipad before so will mostly be my testing platform. I don't have an LE3 Ios license, but im going to explore it for a while see what the games are like and see if I think I could do a good job on it. I am not using LE3 for my main project so maybe it'll be my ios toy, i could use it to try and raise funds for my bigger project via small test projects. Who knows! Any recommended apps, it uses apps right lol. I know im late to this party but I have never had a contract phone before so this is all new to me
  5. This occurs for me when i run the game via run debug, i can't scroll across the content to see what errors were generated.
  6. That would be generally idea, but an advantage of an alpha map being you can have 1 texture (say a dead grass) then several alpha maps, to turn that 1 texture into a pack of 7 for detailing your maps without it being repetitive.
  7. aye you can, but it's v.helpful for csg geometry. A normal map is great, but a normal map with a height map can add that extra touch of detail from being good looking & great looking. Given the amount of effort it takes to produce a height map (v.little) it's a worthwhile investment. Alpha as well is an important aspect with csg, For example, I have a metal fence texture, it has a diffuse, normal, specular, glow, alpha & height map. It looks 3d, each bar of this fence looks 3d even on a flat 2-sided plain. If i remove the additional shaders we don't have in LE3 it looks a million times worse, granted the alpha map plays a big part their since it suddenly has a grey background, but the glow/height map give it a true 3d feel. From what i'm aware the engine would support these, they just need creation.
  8. gloss/glow yeah and height is like a displacement, v.effective for rock faces etc
  9. I know we have diffuse, normal, specular provided with Leadwerks 3. But it would be great to have height, gloss & alpha also provided. Take's the visuals to the next level.
  10. I once made "columns" does that count as a simple game
  11. No green icon cos there is a "kickstarter" link already and its a stretch goal
  12. Han Solo protecting your coffee, I like it! You should open an LE store for t-shirts, (I do it like LEADwerks, Don't disturb me, im werking!) That way you get the benefit of advertising, you could add a markup to helping your dev costs as well! + I love merchandize, and hate buying t-shirts/jackets in stores
  13. Zio you have completely missed my point. "Obviously any forecast has to be flexible and expected to have some form of change as time passed but somewhere we can monitor." Meaning I don't expect it to remain the same, but a location on the site, a page we can visit on a daily, weekly or monthly basis and see what Josh is thinking for the future, so we can allocate funds. I didn't specify a pricelist I said, Paid or Free. So we can say well next month's update is free we can spend this funds on the new modelling software upgrade, or in 3 months we have a paid update coming out, may as well start putting funds to the side to cover it. If this topic is boring you simply don't read it. Their is a "mark forum as read" link you can click. Everyone here, not just you is entitled to put forward their views. As for focussing on my project, I have been, I am using UDK for my larger project but I am interested in the future of LE3 and I'm monitoring it closely for other projects I have in an idea pipeline to see which engine they would be best suited to. I enjoy using LE3 as it's development workflow is very nice so if I can use it for a project I will, therefore I am interested in seeing how it grows. I'm working on the LCP2 so I have some immediate interest in where it is at but my major focus is on it's future, so my suggestion of a roadmap I can monitor would be of great assistance to my future plans. I don't think I'm the only licensee that is using the engine on the sideline and just testing it and trying various things without a current product in mind. Now I kept this a fairly relaxed response to your post, which by the way was the most disgusting post I have read on the forums.
  14. lol that was an example format, not realistic things I just mean some kind of forecast where we can see financial input. Obviously any forecast has to be flexible and expected to have some form of change as time passed but somewhere we can monitor.
  15. I think this was mentioned elsewhere but I want to put the suggestion out there again. A LE Roadmap. Not ultra detailed but more like September 2013 - Patch containing Terrain editor - Free December 2013 - Leadwerks 3.1 - Paid May 2013 - Leadwerks 3.2 - Paid December 2014 - LE4 - Paid Just so we know what to expect as far as cost input goes, it doesn't matter whether your a company or an individual you need to be able to forecast expenditure, otherwise you find yourself in a situation where you don't have funds to the side for something you need and that could halt development - or in extreme cases end it.
  16. In my opinion, not knowing v.much c or lua I think 1 language is better regardless. It makes the community sharing resources much simpler. Yes it requires recompiles for c which lua doesn't but small cost if it makes the dev teams task easier for the engine and means the scripts people share are suitable to all.
  17. Would it be simpler to store all code that is being utilized several times in a specific class/function file. Then each object, include a file that just calls all the other files into play and specifies which functions to activate. For example create "RegFunctions.lua" Then require it in each of your object script files and just call the relevant functions you need.
  18. I think something that has been raised and is fairly important is bug patching for older versions. Every version of 3.x regardless of paid or not. If a bug is fixed for a feature in an earlier version then it should be resolved for all. So some form of "generic" patch system would be a great asset and even if that took the place of actually resolving bugs for a while I don't think many could argue at the value it would bring to the tool set. It would provide a blanket of security to all licensee's regardless of whether they upgrade.
  19. That quote pretty much sum's up 3weeks. As some of you know I'm "studying" Computer Science at the Open University here in the UK. Basically I have course materials & exams but no real teacher and I just do it as and when i'm ready - provided assignments are in on time. I have my 4th assignment due in next Friday which is a 2,500 word report on the potential uses of biometrics for a fictitious company. I had 4weeks to get this done and I finally bothered to pull the book out this morning, I read about 30pages of the 400 worth of material. To say it's procrastination is easy but in reality I knew it was coming the entire time and I was waiting until I needed sleep. I read those 30pages at 2:30 this afternoon when I was wide awake, at 3:15 I was half asleep on the couch lol I know enough about the biometrics to write the report tomorrow but I figure I should at the very least review the study materials. The downside is that mean's cancelling my other plans until atleast Saturday. The downside is I'm wanting to switch my course from the broader Computer Science, to a more Game Dev orientated but the OU doesn't supply it any more (damn them ) so motivation is a killer. I've already told them im taking a year out after this course to see if any new courses open up. Anyway I'm writing this mostly to vent my frustration since im not wanting to pick that back up again, I can't afford to sleep with 3 kids in the house lol. I have been looking for some good books on game dev so any recommendations are welcome. Anything covering programming, blender, texture art, game concept just post me a link and I'll check em out I want to get a good collection on the go
  20. Platforms can only go so far, that's initial interest. There's x number of patterns, that isn't the end of LE development. Then it will be the showcase games, that will drive future progress
  21. I won't get chance until saturday but i'll be doing lighting then so will let you know.
  22. Its not fair to compare LE3 to other engines. Seriously if you go down that route then you lose every time. UDK is free... it has terrain, lightmapping, workflow, csg editor everything.... its free. No-one can compete on that level with a company the size of unreal because it's an unreal (pun intended) expectation. - Note im aware of the $99 release + 25% of over 50k but you can't buy it with the realistic thing of hitting that 50k mark as once you've hit 50k in pure profit then 25% of anything else isn't a huge concern. Leadwerks is a baby engine, by which I mean it has a long road to travel. People here at the moment get to witness and shape that direction, as Josh is only going to develop in a way that progresses things for the developers using it. The more successful your game is, the more likely Josh is to tailor to your needs as your popularity increases engine popularity. If you make the next great MMO, then I think Josh is likely to tailor the tools to mmo's since the million players of your game seeing the Leadwerks splash screen or logo on your game artwork will be coming here looking to replicate your mmo's success, Josh would make his money capitalizing on that traffic.
  23. depends what you define as big i haven't put lighting onto the lcp level yet but its fairly big
  24. Great news! Glad your back on the code!
  25. Indeed i've been playing with it pretty much constantly since, different shapes etc and practicing unwrapping. It seems my biggest issue was thinking the unwrap window would still show unwrap co-ordinates for faces I didn't have selected, which isn't the case so I just need to unwrap in stages and select all to see what space is available to put things in.
