  1. Indie just means independant, and it can be indepandant of anything: money, culture, society, rules, ideas, people, or even it's own definition smile.png

My understanding of 'Indie' is.. "any form of popular culture (such as pop music from a group not signed to a major label) from outside the mainstream". So in a Gaming sense it is a Game Producer who is independent of the major Game producing companies and not of the mainstream.

  2. I'm perfectly happy to let Shiva and Unity have the script kiddies. We'll take the programmers who appreciate an object-oriented C++ API, please. biggrin.png

It's this type of elitism that caused a backlash during the LE2 saga. Not a positive approach.

If this is truly what you think Josh then why have scripting at all? LE3 could have been the ultimate Game Engine for the serious C++ programmer.

  3. Small highly detailed terrains would be a great feature

Hi Roland, Yes but any inspiring World Builder could achieve this in most Engines with quality Assets and careful placement. The ultimate would be to achieve 'highly detailed Infinite Terrains'. This may be possible. Procedural Generation, Occlusion Culling, Terrain stitching, Lods and streaming and deletion of objects could all add up to Infinite Game Worlds if it was organised well. I think that the Quality or usability of a Terrain tool in a 3D Engine is the determining factor of the success of the Engine, Games these days are becoming more and more expansive and the comments I see about Game environments usually refer to 'detail' and 'size'.

  4. Hi Pixel,

found a major bug in Chapter2 this morning (the Lifebar was not working and negative Thoughtforms were

congregating at the feet of the Player). Repaired and a new version(1.1) uploaded. Hope it didn't spoil your evening.smile.png

Also made some minor improvements to Chapter1.

  5. Red Ocktober,

Interesting you should say that. The Quiet Earth is actually a 1985 New Zealand film, (see Here) where I was born and still live. It's one of those movies that has an impact on you and stays with you so it may well have influenced me in some way, ( Although the central premise of The Quiet Earth is quite different to that of Astralum). Bruno Lawrence, the main actor is well known here for his powerful acting in locally made, cutting edge, Indie type films.

  6. Rick,

Get used to receiving such warnings in the future from the Web. .exe and .msi files being offered for download by 'low profile sites' are being flagged red by AVG, AVast, Chrome and others. (Part of a new policing policy) If I post the same files in a zip rather than an .exe installer there is no flagging.

    Puki,

Thanks, Such a good laugh. smile.png Your comments show me that even the most avid of First Person Shooter gamers will be able to finally navigate their way through a Chapter. Those 'orange balls' you encountered are Thoughtforms and they are pink or red on my screen but I'm glad you found a way to avoid them. There are at least two ways to get through that part of the Chapter unscathed. I'm slightly amazed that you used two computers to figure things out, Well done. and watch out for the next Chapter.

    Red Ocktober,

is this one of those games for people who would qualify for mensa membership

No, but it is a 'First Person Thinker'.
