Leadwerks Community Project 1

It seems the right time to re-open the LCP1 project, since many community members are seriously trying to get things done, and have done so already. Many people ask for help, and are learning fast new things.

A community game project should not be an unpleasant task for anyone, but rather an opportunity to learn new things, and benefit from the work of other people, and be helpful to your fellow community members too.

And if you're already working on your own game (who isn't?), you might get some useful knowledge to help you finish your own game faster too.

I've learned a lot from the first opening of LCP1, and with that experience I think this project can now finally come true. The Leadwerks Engine has also improved a lot since then (the first LCP1 demo was done with Leadwerks Engine 1.13 back in the year 2007, imagine!), and I've developed game libraries from there on too.

Anyway, I don't want to tell too long stories, but rather get the people who are interested in this to see some results. So I've remade the old LCP web page from scratch, and organized some people to make things they are good at and like to do.

Here's the new web page which will be updated with more information in the coming days:

Can I be the guy who gets the kind of job that when he messes it up it doesn't make much difference? :P

I'm happy to help out but I'm self taught and I only just picked up C/C++ having come from Blitz Basic and I don't really have any other skills apart from programming. (Not that I'm incompetent just that I'm not really able to put together a properly structured program in C/C++ first time round.)

I'm happy to do something like QA and balancing though if that's an option.

I am interested in this project but I won't join as it would be unfair to everyone as I am unreliable with the amount of time I can commit.

It doesn't really matter how much time you spend, because the project is organized so that everyone can pick up task to do from a list of tasks I set up. So if you don't have time to do a task, the just don't pick it up, someone else will do it then :P

Well, until I put up a picutre of myself - understandable, and mostly not a problem... But why pick a 10-year old though, especially one holding a dead animal, with a creepy little guy to the side? I was having a drink when I first saw it... Nearly went in the keyboard...

Hehe, sorry to hear that you almost ruined your keyboard, but I thought it was funny, since you said you'd rather put a picture of a dead guinea pig up as your avatar :P

Yeah, I always mess up guinea pigs with pigeons and pigs. Same goes for boar, beer and bear, or lose and loose. At least one thing I don't mess up is that Scotland and England are two seperate countries and cultures. The Scottish and Irish people are Celtic folks, and share the same roots.

The game launcher/updater is ready.

You can see the big download link (126KB) on the page:

http://www.siipi.com/lcp1

This is only to test how wh1sp3r's game launcher/updater works, he made an awesome job to make the launcher.exe itself also auto-update on the fly!

There will be soon also a seperate public launcher, which doesn't download the source code of the game. Only approved LCP1 members can use the full launcher (everyone who has LE or 3DWS gets approved when you register).
