At this time I recommend an Nvidia card. AMD cards might or might not work, I just haven't tested them on Linux yet.
Thanks for the tip.

Well, I am installing an OpenGL 4 - capable Intel CPU now to make it happen!
Cool =). Are there other drivers than the Intel Mesa drivers to that one? I found this complete Mesa GL3/GL4 status article a week ago :
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTQ3ODY
I am considering Radeon for my dev station right now. The AMD Radeon Performance Is Incredible On Linux 3.12 over 3.11. Some games improved with just low double-digit gains while other Linux games were nearly 90% faster:

But that's sure to hurt the immediate sales numbers for those games. We live in a world where your first day sales numbers makes a statement. I would be shocked if Valve took that risk. HL 3 starting out exclusively for SteamOS would kill their starting sales numbers.
Indeed a gamble but it could be worth it if you are doing a statement, like Valve is trying to do.
Another interesting thing you could do for a Linux exclusive release is to bundle the game on a Linux live cd. Then a interested gamer could download an iso, burn the iso to cd, boot it and try the game. This would of course not work for games that require a lot of resources like BF4 etc.

Found this at several sites this morning:
It took Halo for the first Xbox to kick off and go crazy — usually, it takes one killer app or game and then people are more than willing to adopt it.
I guess the developer of the killer app could be a Leadwerks 3.1 developer in the end

Currently LLVM compiled binaries are less optimized than GCC (as I understand it). However LLVM has a lot of improvements over GCC, like better static analysis of code etc.

I am new here to but I'm pretty sure you can create a full game in Lua.
I usually look at Aggrors tutorials. They are grate:

Here is a Leadwerks Lua specific tutorial from Aggror :

I'd personally much rather have 3.1 and networking.
Indeed.

Maybe the wiki could be read only for anonymous users and registered users that are not in the Developer group. This would avoid spam.

Was the intention to base the GUI framework of Leadwerks on vector primitives like Noesis GUI and Autodesk Scaleform. I can not find any info about that here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1937035674/leadwerks-build-linux-games-on-linux/posts/554473
I know that the GUI never reached its KS goal but I am still interested in the idea.

Would it be possible, with the new terrain system, to create something like this:
I like to use that style for my long run project that I will use Leadwerks 3.1 for.
However I think it can be tricky to recreate the whole feeling in the picture above.
More inspiration here: http://metamythic.com/low-poly-isometric-worlds/

The latest Nvidia vs ATI performance test can usually be found here:
Phoronix are very detailed and usually cover the hard ware and driver part quite well. The Mesa coverage is also good. Expect some Intel HW and drivers to pop up in the RSS.
Go digging

1. Does leadwerks 3 have support for terrain stitching via code or via GUI? From what I understand terrain was just added in.
If you want to read more about the terrain system Josh wrote good articles about it here:
http://www.leadwerks.com/werkspace/blog/41/entry-1112-virtual-texture-terrain/
http://www.leadwerks.com/werkspace/blog/41/entry-1124-procedural-terrain/
5. I have come from a relatively negative community *Cough* CryDev *Cough*. how positive is the Leadwerks community? I know that this is rather silly to ask. But when someone needs help and they just "troll" you till you leave both in PM and the recruitment thread you made. It is rather not helpful... So you can see why I left CryDev.
I don't know anything about the Crytek community. I am new in this community like you (circa 2 months) and I like it here. People are friendly and helpful in general.

From the KickStarter (
This will be such a nice feature. Good times indeed

You are right, Leadwerks has it's own file format for models etc. Sure, Blender can export to STL. Those things are however not interesting. The interesting thing is that it is possible to make a diff of two 3d models and that the diff is intuitive. When you know how something can be done and can be applied on one thing it is a big chance that the knowledge can be applied on related things. Maybe this will spread to blender files (There will be a Leadwerks plugin for blender you know).
If you do not spread the word about interesting things in your domain and related domains nothing will ever evolve or spread

A few months after releasing support for viewing models in .STL format, GitHub just added support for viewing changes to .STL formatted 3D models directly in the browser. It is a very visual feed back I must add.

A really good and inspirational video from people that have created small indie companies:
Enjoy.

Congrats Daimour

It would be awesome if there was a tournament about a month after 3.1 is released in December so the people joining the community from the KS could compete.

Hello
I recently started to learn Leadwerks. This looks like a good intro to post processing in Leadwerks:
http://www.leadwerks.com/files/Tutorials/CPP/Post-Processing_Effects.pdf
On the tutorial side I have found Aggror (Jorn theunissens) tutorials on YouTube very useful (a gold star to that young lad) :
https://www.youtube.com/user/Aggror89
The only tutorial I am missing from Aggror is how to make goof 2D UI stuff like HUDs and widgets in C++ and Lua. =)

I don't expect most people to listen to me. But if there is just that one guy/girl new to Leadwerks coming to the forum and wondering what is this blender stuff, then it was worth it =p
I have played around with blender a long time ago. I was thinking of buying models however I will give it a try again =)

Hi!
I am new here. This is my first post
I ended up being a Leadwerks fan during the KS. I can not participate in the contest because the license i will get from pledging on KS will not be delivered until December. However I just wanted to write a polite "Hello community".
I have been lurking around here since the KS and I want to say that the community looks like a very nice one where people share and are nice to each other. Keep up the good work!
I wish you all good luck in the competition and I hope you will have more competitions in the future.

Torvalds: SteamOS will "really help" Linux on desktop
in General Discussion

Here is a nice article about what Torvalds thinks about SteamOS:
