  1. Can you do things like create roads, or sculpt terrain via code, or are editor features only available in the editor?
  2. I dropped a GTS 250 in my PC today and the same terrain is now giving me >120 fps. I new my 7800 was out of date...but I didn't realize it was THAT bad.
  3. I saw that you can use shaders with LE. Is it a LE specific format, or can I grab a shader straight from render monkey and use it in LE? I'm probably missing something, but how do I add models to my scene in the eval kit? I tried putting a new model in the models folder, but it didn't show up in the list. Can I point the editor at my assets library folder and have it see all my art? Is the model converter tool only available in the purchased edition? I didn't see it to download anywhere. I wanted to see how a few of the models I have will render in the engine.
  4. I'm running win7 x64 on a intel quad4 3.6ghz cpu with 8 gig of ram, and a geforce 7800 gtx 512mb. The graphics card is the weak point of my system, but I'm torn on upgrading it because I don't want to run top of the line dual sli on a dev machine and then find out that joe-user's PC doesn't come anywhere near my performance.
  5. I decided to reboot to see if it would help, and the FPS is now over 40 for the same terrain as I was using before.
  6. I already did that. I'm using the most current Nvidia drivers.
  7. What kind of FPS should I expect in the editor? Is it better/worse/same as in-game? Currently, in the editor, I'm getting <10 fps with only a 1024x1024 terrain loaded. Is that normal? My rig is pretty beefy, so I'm thinking something isn't quite right.
  8. I fall into the "will never finish a game, but will spend tons of money on art and engines" category. I've used many engines, and tried many frameworks. I haven't been using LE yet (although I've been using 3dws for a while) because I was focused on xbox 360 and xna, but I was spending more time writing tools than I was developing a game, so I decided that the trouble wasn't worth it. I'm never gonna finish a game anyway, so who cares if it will be on xbox or not. From an outside observer's perspective, LE looks like the most complete hobbyist engine on the planet. Torque made me want to kick myself in the balls every time I tried to use it. I can't speak to LE's credit yet because I'm not an actual user, but I feel that I would be doing the world a disservice by not saying "don't buy torque. Keep your money and your sanity." Torque is a good exercise in how to "almost" write an engine, leave out features, have **** documenation, samples that don't work, and a community that does nothing but complain about the product. I fully intend to buy this engine. The quality of 3dws, along with the friendly community and the fact that Josh actually responds to posts, make me think that there is something different about this engine...in a good way.
  9. I had a similar question today, but slightly different. Can you script editor commands? Like add a right-click item in the pop up menu that could open a form defined in a different assembly? A possible use of this would be to add a custom properties window for a different class library, like if you wanted to be able to set properties for your AI system via the LE. Basically...is there any plugin support?
  10. Nevermind, solved it. My vid drivers were out of date from my OS upgrade.
  11. I'm having a problem with the evaluation kit. When I try to start it, I get the splash screen for a split second, then nothing. No error message or anything. I'm running Win7 x64, 3.6ghz, 8gig ram, geforce 7800 gtx. Any ideas?
