May do a v2 and scrap this one but thought I'd post here anyway. I'm not sure how clear it's been (I have a bad memory and sometimes I think I mentioned something maybe I didn't - just though about ) but I have considered that the cube carries a sphere and it is the sphere that breaks in and travels down the tube from outside to try to take over ship (by whatever means, virus, physical electrical damage etc.).
