  1. One month ago I began work to investigate what it would take to bring Ultra App Kit, the foundation for our new generation of game development tools, to Linux. Today I am happy to share my progress with you and discuss some of the things I have learned. Developed by MIT in the year 1984, X11 is an interesting beast that is easy to start with, but can become quite difficult once you get into the details. (Wayland support is of course an obvious step in the not-too-distant future but I have to work with what exists here now today and Ubuntu 20.04 still uses X by default.) The single hardest part had to do with calls to XSetInputFocus on windows that had not yet been mapped. X has a weird asynchronous design, yet XSetInputFocus does not seem to get added to the command queue and instead depends on the mapping (visible) state of a window right now. That means that is you create or show a window and then immediately activate it, an error will occur that looks something like this: Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 42 (X_SetInputFocus) Serial number of failed request: 12 Current serial number in output stream: 12 The way around this is to call XMapWindow and then wait on the event queue until a MapNotify event for that window occurs, adding all other events into a list that can be evaluated on the next call to WaitEvent(). The time elapsed is checked inside the loop in case something weird happens and the desired event is never received: void Window::Show() { if (!Hidden()) return; XMapWindow(display->GetHandle(),xwindow); XMoveResizeWindow(display->GetHandle(), GetHandle(),m_position.x,m_position.y,size.x,size.y); XFlush(display->GetHandle()); XSync(display->GetHandle(),false); auto engine = GameEngine::Get(); XEvent ev = {}; auto start = Millisecs(); while (xhidestate) { XNextEvent(display->GetHandle(),&ev); if (ev.type == MapNotify and ev.xany.window == GetHandle()) { xhidestate = false; return; } if (engine) engine->storedxevents.push_back(ev); Sleep(1); if (Millisecs() - start > 5000) { Warn("MapNotify is taking a long time to be received. This may cause window errors."); return; } } } POSIX timers are strange creatures that seem to follow rules all their own. A timer callback gets triggered during any call to sleep() when a timer tick has occurred, but a mutex lock inside the callback will freeze the program. I ended up using the much simpler timerfd interface. Double-buffering, good text rendering, and alpha blending are all different extensions built on top of the base X11 system. Getting all of this to work together took a lot of trial and error. However, I think you will agree based on the screenshots below that this work has been worthwhile. Multi-select draggable treeview with insertion between nodes Multi-line text display with optional word wrapping Hierarchical menu system with real popup windows For the final leg of development I have set up a small Kickstarter campaign. If you haven't gotten Ultra App Kit yet this is a good opportunity to grab it before the Linux build is released. Ultra App Kit can also be purchase in our store or on Steam.
  2. Hello again, hope you are all doing good. So, second post for tonight. I've chosen to install Ubuntu on my main computer as a dual boot as I need to use Linux for school and because I like Linux. I've chosen dual boot because I still want Windows to be running as my main OS for compatibility and ease of use. Today I've finally took the time to install the latest of ubuntu on my computer and I wanted to try Leadwerk on Linux as I was curious. I wanted to open a .werk project but met an error when trying to import it inside the project manager. The project was created on Windows and was already far in development. Anyway, I thought it was a compatibility problem with Linux and windows. To test this hypothesis I create a new, first person shooter game to try. When I launch it inside the editor the game crash instantly. Inside the console is this message: I don't really understand, I make sure of everything before installing ubuntu to avoid any problem. I'm sure the installation process was complete and successful without any errors. And I installed Steam and Leadwerk correctly on Ubuntu. I really don't know from where this error is coming. I'm a bit rusty with Linux, it's been a pretty long time since I used it, so am I missing something (probably). Anyway, thank you very much for your help. Have a good night/day.
  3. On http://www.leadwerks.com/werkspace/page/tutorials/_/editor-interface-r1 It says you will see the welcome page initially, but you don't. It also says you can enable/disable it under Help:Welcome Page, but that option doesn't exist.
  4. Hi. Trying to use Leadwerks on Ubuntu 18.04 64bit with a Geforce GTX 750 Ti but when I try to open an existing project or start a new one, after clicking OK to load it, Leadwerks crashes. Nothing is written in the Leadwerks.log. I'm using the latest proprietary drivers and to use the old version is not an option in case that would be a solution. Could anyone help? I mean, it a fresh install of the OS and Leadwerks, so whatever the problem is, it must be solved on Leadwerks side. Thanks.
  5. Hi all, I have problem compile a blank Leadwerks C++ project on ubuntu 16.04(64Bit) with CodeBlocs(ver.16.01). Before i used CB on Ubuntu 15.10 without problems. Strange is that after fresh install on ubuntu 16.04 I have to install also all dependecy libraries manualy (libgl1-mesa-dev...etc) even it is installed from Steam. After installation of libraries that linker wanted i got: g++ -o ../../SpaceWars.debug ../../Source/App.o ../../Source/main.o /media/mbarhon/53229DC13D856ACD/mbarhon/Steam/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Library/Linux/Debug/Leadwerks.a -ldl -lopenal -lGL -lGLU /media/mbarhon/53229DC13D856ACD/mbarhon/Steam/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Library/Linux/libluajit.a ../../libsteam_api.so -lX11 -lpthread undefined reference to `Leadwerks::FileSystem::StripAll(std::__cxx11::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char> > const&)' and this repeats for every line contain any function or varible from namespace Leadwerks. I tried to change a linker settings (directory of leadwerks lib ), but without success. Maybe I forgot to install some lib? I'm little stuck at this moment. Have someone any idea where can be the problem?
  6. I'm currently testing Luawerks for Linux, and I've noticed that window:FlushMouse() and window:FlushKeys() seem to not be working with Linux. This is probably well known as I'm sure X11 is hell to work with. Any idea how to remedy this in the meantime? I tried to fix this with booleans and timers, but it just delays the action.
  7. Seems that scripts cannot be attached to objects, while using Linux Mint 18.2. In the following video an attempt to attach the Spectator.lua script to a camera results in failure. This was also applied to a CSG and the TriggerChangeMap.lua, ending with the same results. https://youtu.be/ucTMUP8cZSg Edit: This morning the Leadwerks contents were verified through Steam and everything checked out. Also, started a new Leadwerks configuration directory, and project, ending with the same results. Scripts are not attachable. @Josh
  8. Each time the Edit Color settings, under the "Appearance" tab, are altered, upon restart they are reset. The colours that are selected remain while in session, but once Leadwerks is closed and then restarted, the previous, default colours return. Clearly the values are not being saved. The methods that have been tried to work around the problem are: selecting colours using the colour wheel selector, altering the data numerically in the panel, and altering the data within the colour wheel selector. All have resulted in failure. Seems that I did not change the Min and Max Brush colours in the Options. My apologies for my ignorance. lol
  9. Last night there was another update and a new bug when compiling. /home/robb/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Classes/LinkedList.h|20|error: ‘weak_ptr’ does not name a type| /home/robb/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Classes/LinkedList.h|39|error: ‘shared_ptr’ does not name a type| /home/robb/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Classes/AnimationManager.h|36|error: ‘nullptr’ was not declared in this scope| ||=== Build failed: 3 error(s), 13 warning(s) (0 minute(s), 0 second(s)) ===|
  10. Since the last update, Codeblocks seems to be getting some new errors now, and it is unclear, if even possible by the user, how to correct them. Also, after the last update to the 4.4 branch, the libcurl4-openssl-dev package was required. ||=== Build: Debug in OpenWorld (compiler: GNU GCC Compiler) ===| /home/robb/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Library/Linux/Debug/Leadwerks.a(Client.o)||In function `Leadwerks::Client::CountServers(std::string const&, int, std::string const&)':| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Client.cpp|64|undefined reference to `curl_global_init'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Client.cpp|66|undefined reference to `curl_easy_init'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Client.cpp|69|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Client.cpp|72|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Client.cpp|73|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Client.cpp|77|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Client.cpp|80|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Client.cpp|84|undefined reference to `curl_easy_perform'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Client.cpp|91|undefined reference to `curl_easy_strerror'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Client.cpp|121|undefined reference to `curl_easy_cleanup'| /home/robb/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Library/Linux/Debug/Leadwerks.a(Server.o)||In function `Leadwerks::Server::Publish(std::string const&, std::string const&, int, std::string const&)':| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|63|undefined reference to `curl_global_init'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|65|undefined reference to `curl_easy_init'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|68|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|71|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|72|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|76|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|79|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|83|undefined reference to `curl_easy_perform'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|90|undefined reference to `curl_easy_strerror'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|107|undefined reference to `curl_easy_cleanup'| /home/robb/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Library/Linux/Debug/Leadwerks.a(Server.o)||In function `Leadwerks::Server::Remove(int)':| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|126|undefined reference to `curl_global_init'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|128|undefined reference to `curl_easy_init'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|131|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|134|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|135|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|139|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|142|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|146|undefined reference to `curl_easy_perform'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|153|undefined reference to `curl_easy_strerror'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|170|undefined reference to `curl_easy_cleanup'| /home/robb/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Library/Linux/Debug/Leadwerks.a(Server.o)||In function `Leadwerks::Server::Refresh(int)':| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|184|undefined reference to `curl_global_init'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|186|undefined reference to `curl_easy_init'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|189|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|192|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|193|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|197|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|200|undefined reference to `curl_easy_setopt'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|204|undefined reference to `curl_easy_perform'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|210|undefined reference to `curl_easy_strerror'| /home/josh/Leadwerks/Engine/Source/Classes/Server.cpp|227|undefined reference to `curl_easy_cleanup'| ||=== Build failed: 40 error(s), 0 warning(s) (0 minute(s), 1 second(s)) ===|
  11. My problem is the following: I bought Leadwerks some weeks ago, and now I want to use it. As it requires OpenGL4, I believed that it would run on the latest version of RadeonSI supporting OpenGL 4.1, but when I try to launch the application, A window pops up saying that it "Failed to initialize Graphics" and that I should update my graphics driver. This is a thing that I do not want, as AMD Crimson edition is ****. When i launch the application with steam opened via terminal, it says that it is running in "experimental openGL 3 fallback". Im sure that the driver suports openGL 4.1, as I have checked it via GLXINFO My system is: CPU: Intel Pentium G4400 GPU: AMD HD 7770 (Cape Verde XT) Ram: 16 GB DDR4 OS: Ubuntu 15.10 Driver: RadeonSI over Mesa 11.3 devel.
  12. On http://www.leadwerks.com/werkspace/page/tutorials/_/models-and-animation-r8 This part is very non-intuitive. It didn't show the entire model at first, and didn't auto-play. There are no buttons with Play icons or tooltips. Randomly pressing the two buttons to the left of the slider, I managed to get it to 'start' - but all it was doing was flashing different body parts on the screen really quick. It didn't appear that anything moved, just flashed.
  13. Created a script this morning to load a cylinder with an attached script, however the material does not seem to load for the cylinder, or a cone, shaped CSG. Spheres and boxes load without issue. Not really sure why the materials are not loading, but I am hoping someone could clear this up. function Script:Use(entity) local bottle = Model:Cylinder() local material = Material:Load("Materials/Developer/bluegrid.mat") bottle:SetMaterial(material) bottle:SetScale(0.15,0.65,0.15) bottle:SetPosition(-4.4,1.6,1.9) local shape = Shape:Cylinder() bottle:SetShape(shape) bottle:SetMass(1) bottle:SetScript("Scripts/Functions/PickupHealth.lua") end
  14. Hi, Game Launcher window when started is maximised and goes off screen. There is no way to adjust the size of the window, and buttons at the bottom are almost off the screen. This not really looking good and will put off users from using it. I'm using KDE (which is available in Ubuntu if somebody wants to be picky about supported distro) IMO trying going to full screen is pointless especially if launcher have such a basic design. Attached screen is not cut off, this is how it looks with hidden task bar, whole desktop area and to already answer potential question. I had to hide my task bar in order to start the game (button click), otherwise buttons are not visible.
  15. Hi, The font of the script editor is using a non-monospaced font which makes it difficult to write code. I cannot find an option anywhere to change the font, nor can I find a folder anywhere (e.g. in ~/.config) that contains configuration options. Can someone explain how to change the font? Thanks
  16. Today I was looking around the Steam store and noticed that Leadwerks Game Engine is not listed as supporting GNU/Linux (SteamOS) anymore. Is this true, or an error on their part? If so, what is not making this wonderful game engine not support for this platform?
  17. In the Scene panel, I am unable to select multiple items with the CTL or SHIFT keys. CTL + A does work, but I cannot modify the selection afterwards.
  18. I am using the latest beta build, but this issue occurs on the stable release as well. I am completely unable to drag and drop assets of any kind into my projects. This is only a minor issue, as I can still open the folders and/or use the "Import" option to successfully bring in assets. It is only a convenience issue and thus not a high priority if it's something more than an easily-resolved bug. While I'm here, I am also unable to delete assets from anywhere but the scene explorer. I have to right click and choose "Delete." I am no longer able to simple press my "Delete" key, nor is there a right-click context menu option within the viewport windows to permit deletion. This might be intentional, not sure. A temporary workaround is to use the cut shortcut (CTL+X) to pseudo-delete. This works well enough for now. See attached screenshot for image of current right click context menu.
  19. Hello, Today I bought Leadwerks on steam because I thought it was worth it because of the huge winter sales But when I launch it and create a workspace the following error comes up : Failed to initialize graphics. Please ensure your graphics hardware is compatible and install new graphics drivers. And I found this old post who had the same problem which did not reassure me in the slightest because I haven't had a new computer in 6 years and my parents won't even let me buy my own if I saved up for it. I also did sudo lshw -C video And got the following result : *-display description: VGA compatible controller product: RS780L [Radeon 3000] vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] physical id: 5 bus info: pci@0000:01:05.0 version: 00 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom configuration: driver=radeon latency=0 resources: irq:18 memory:d0000000-dfffffff ioport:d000(size=256) memory:feaf0000-feafffff memory:fe900000-fe9fffff I also tried updating openGL which changed a huge amount of nothing Please help, Does this mean the computer is to old for this ?
  20. I cannot find a way to 'autoscroll' the debug window text. It would be nice if it was possible to set it to 'autoscroll on ouput', so that you can easily see the latest messages that get's printed out. (Running on ubuntu, guessing it's the same on windows, but I have not tested on windows because I do not have that). It's not easy to debug when you debug 'blind' and then have to scroll down and read the output afterwards. Makes it very tricky. Also - the output window on the main editor screen - would be nice if that one also could show the same text as what the output\debug window in the script editor shows. That would make it easier\faster to debug.
  21. When I start Leadwerks from the Steam window Leadwerks freezes the whole desktop. If I start Leadwerks directly from the desktop it works. I am running Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS.
  22. Hello. When I started creating anything on Linux I discovered that bug. When you run a game window appears, sounds are playing but screen isn't updating (when I walked I heard it saw the window but nothing happened). I used sample projects, and my own.
  23. I'm running LE on Ubuntu with AMD driver. Now, I have 2 issues, a minor and a major one. Firstly, VSync does not seems to work (yes, I've set Context:Sync(true)). Secondly, when I start LE after rebooting, it's quite fast. I get around 90 fps with water included on simple maps. Quite satisfactory. However, after a LE restart or two (or after a longer session without a restart), I get around 35 fps even when there are no objects in the map. The only solution is to reboot a computer. Any ideas? Thanx! EDIT This happens when I plug in external monitor to my laptop regardless whether the build in monitor is turned on or off. When I use only lap top's build in monitor, the situation does not seem to happen. Needless to say, I want to be able to use my 24 inch monitor.
  24. On http://www.leadwerks.com/werkspace/page/tutorials/_/asset-browser-r5 The folder didn't open. I expected Nautilus or similar to open to the specified directory.
  25. When compiling in Linux a bunch of warning for unknown pragmas is generated. Really annoying. Example: Compiling this source file #include <Leadwerks.h> // yes! A one line cpp file You will get following warnings. Yes! I know they can be ignored. But the whole thing looks like a mess and its hard to see the "Real" warnings. In file included from /home/roland/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Leadwerks.h:327:0, from /media/roland/work/LE/Trails/Source/dummy.cpp:1: /home/roland/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Classes/Directory.h:2:0: warning: ignoring #pragma warning [-Wunknown-pragmas] #pragma warning(disable:4290) ^ /home/roland/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Classes/Directory.h:3:0: warning: ignoring #pragma warning [-Wunknown-pragmas] #pragma warning(disable:4996) ^ In file included from /home/roland/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Leadwerks.h:371:0, from /media/roland/work/LE/Trails/Source/dummy.cpp:1: /home/roland/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Classes/Stream.h:2:0: warning: ignoring #pragma warning [-Wunknown-pragmas] #pragma warning(disable:4290) ^ /home/roland/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Classes/Stream.h:3:0: warning: ignoring #pragma warning [-Wunknown-pragmas] #pragma warning(disable:4996) ^ In file included from /home/roland/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Leadwerks.h:375:0, from /media/roland/work/LE/Trails/Source/dummy.cpp:1: /home/roland/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Classes/Texture.h:2:0: warning: ignoring #pragma warning [-Wunknown-pragmas] #pragma warning(disable:4290) ^ /home/roland/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Classes/Texture.h:3:0: warning: ignoring #pragma warning [-Wunknown-pragmas] #pragma warning(disable:4996) ^ In file included from /home/roland/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Leadwerks.h:474:0, from /media/roland/work/LE/Trails/Source/dummy.cpp:1: /home/roland/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Classes/Drivers/Graphics/OpenGL2/OpenGL2Texture.h:2:0: warning: ignoring #pragma warning [-Wunknown-pragmas] #pragma warning(disable:4290) ^ /home/roland/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Leadwerks/Include/Classes/Drivers/Graphics/OpenGL2/OpenGL2Texture.h:3:0: warning: ignoring #pragma warning [-Wunknown-pragmas] #pragma warning(disable:4996) ^ Process terminated with status 0 (0 minute(s), 2 second(s)) 0 error(s), 8 warning(s) (0 minute(s), 2 second(s)) And what is causing this then. This is something common in many Leadwerks headers #pragma warning(disable:4290) #pragma warning(disable:4996) #include "../Leadwerks.h" What's a solution that works in both Windows and Linux then. This is #ifdef PLATFORM_WINDOWS #pragma warning(disable:4290) #pragma warning(disable:4996) #endif #include "../Leadwerks.h" Would be great to have this sorted out
