  1. Hello, the entity::save() method is saving corrupted files with a size of 1KB. It returns true. To reproduce simply load and save any file. Included is the plane.mdl model in its original and corrupted state. plane.zip Thank you.
  2. Since I'm very new to Lua and to programming with an API in C++. I think a starter kit or template kit would be nice for the beginners to this, who could see what does what, why it's needed, and how it works. This would give a base idea of a foundation for experimentation and development of their idea of a game. As some of us may have a very hard time combining the various tutorials (or no tutorial on subject in lua) and getting the engine to run a single player experience like the start of Half-life, Menu screen, start game, no weapons, explore, then **** hits the fan then load new level, test new weapons, going through a breakable wall to the exit. If the starter kit / starter template is a good idea I think it should contain the following example maps; an example of creating and using a statemachine for main menu, an options menu that effects the game, and the game itself, an example of level/map switching, an example of weapon pickup and weapon switching, and have an example of two weapons, a melee (crowbar, knife etc) and a gun which displays it's ammo count when selected (to help in learning to display ammo count, HP, SP etc.), An example of a breakable wall, or building collapse from breaking a support. and a final example where all the examples are tied to gather. All of these should be covered in both C++ and Lua langauges to help those who are new to programming in either of these languages and picked up the engine, since it looks to be better than some of the other engines out there. Now, I will admit I'm aiming to make an RPG, but since the FPS genre is the easiest type of game to start from. It would be the best starting point to learn from. And if people enjoy the starter kit, maybe a more advanced kits could be made to cover more advanced things like; creating or modifing the AI behavior (learn AI logic and processing), Character subtypes (learn inheritance), inventory systems, Advanced map features, ... Etc
  3. Hello everyone, So with my business software released, i'm moving back into game design. I'm putting my castle game to the side for, what I feel, a easier game to execute. With the majority of mechanics planned out, I'll begin to design the first few levels. I think i'm also going to video record a developer diary to keep people informed on the status of the development of the game. I am looking for some artists, especially 3D modeling with animation skills as well as texturing artists. anyone interested can PM me.
  4. Hello, Leadwerks is not creating correctly sized windows. When setting the resolution to 800 x 600: window = Window::Create("UISystem", 0, 0, 800, 600); A window with the window size of 800 x 600 will be created, it seems correct at first but what I really wanted (and expected) this command to do is create a client area with the size of 800 x 600. Leadwerks behavior: Expected behavior: Thank you.
  5. Hi everyone, I'm trying to become familiar with LE3 and right now I'm Studying the C++ tutos. But I've got a problem with the jumping action in the "Making a First Person Camera" tutorial. After jumping, my character stays in the air until a position update occurs (by moving my character for example). It occurs with my own code and even with the code given in the page (http://www.leadwerks.com/werkspace/page/tutorials/_/making-a-first-person-camera-r15 ) Is it a bug in Leadwerks 3.0 ? Another question: I'm used to code using C++ and I ask myself if there is a way to use C++ in the actual version of LE 3.1 The lack of class mechanism in LUA is really a problem for me thanks for your help (and special thank to aggror for its work)
  6. Hi, I was checking (again) the Leadwerks page from the Steam store, and remarked this details: "... File paths cannot contain Cyrilic characters" So the engine, cannot parse theses type of characters ex: french is using theses "éèçë" in a file paths. So does it also mean that the managing of strings is on a byte basis? It might not handle theses characters in strings inside the engine? Would be nice to have a UTF-8 string class that could handle more types of character to create multi languages games. For now, since the GUI features are at minimum I could perhaps get the display context and use Irrlicht to draw the strings in that context (was using this before pre-ordering Leadwerks) or use a GUI lib. For english only games, this would not matter at all since all the english characters are represented in the basic "ascii" table. But the LUA features that Leadwerk have seem so good, that I would have to do some kind of hack to store my strings in a LUA script (I was thinking to create dialogs/subtitles in multiple language simply by using LUA.) That's not really a problem right now, since I need to give you the time to let you complete 3.1, learn Leadwerks and produce some prototypes to know how to get around. Perhaps, after 3.1 if you would like to have Multilingual support for improved GUI... Being able to store in widestring format would also help if we use a external GUI.
  7. I'm struggling even with a buddy already, on learning LUA. He's busy I dont like bothering him, so the next best thing would be to learn with some one strictly on learning coding or to be taught. Any body up for the task or want to learn together?
  8. hi guys me and my buddy are working on a game which will be a survival horror and we have been trying to figure out how to attach a model of a flashlight to our fps controller so the arms/hands and flashlight are always shown and follow the camera
  9. I was wondering if somebody did already worked with this? What i need to define a way to measure, size of objects, speed, weight and other stuff. How can i turn object sizes to meters or feet? Same with speed, i can get the velocity vector, how could i define a real speed for objects in KM/h or M/h. velocity = GetBodyVelocity(object,0); speed = Length(velocity); What about weight from mass? Thanks a lot in advance.
  10. To buy or not to buy? I want to be able to create absolutely STUNNING landscapes, and be able to explore it in my project. The in game editor aint bad but, have you seen W.M? Is it worth it? Is it possible to export EVERYTHING youve created in W.M and then import it into Leadwerks? Trees, water and everything orrr, what? Before I purchase it I want to make a good decision. lol I dont want to spill the idea of my project but I will say this, its obviously going to be a huge open world. Hopefully the size of Chernarus in DayZ.
  11. My buddy who I am working with is making models via cinema, and he bakes the texture and all that but when we import the model its completely white and untextured and just BASIC! How do we get textures to ....export and everyithg with the texture applied to it? Any help would GREATLY be appreciated.
  12. How is everybody? Any body have a project they want to share?
  13. Hey guys it's me again. I was wondering how one might implement a custom weapon. I know how to create models but my problem is I am not sure how to assign it to the char. Do I assign a bone where I want to have the char hold it? And can someone link me to a detailed Leadwerks 3 Custom Character tutorial? I have the character but I have no clue what to name the bones or how to have Leadwerks recognize the bones. Thank you for your time, Cody Mihelich
  14. Good Morning, I've bought Leadwerks Indie Edition. But it's the edition without c++ and I wondered if lua is suitable to make 3d games because everywhere stands that games with lua often crash. Is this true? Kind regards Eddie 713
  15. Hello guys! My friend and I just bought Leadwerks. I decided to stream so that you can learn with me / give me tips. And that way the staff on here can see how a total newbie to the engine feels. I hope you enjoy! Link: www.twitch.tv/papa_beans Update:: Lots of learning happening, thank you pillar!!! 10 Hours into the stream!
  16. If I buy the pre-order for 3.1 then will I get the latest version right now? There is nothing else in the store. (no other versions)
  17. When I create a new project there's no C++ option. I have MS C++ Express installed and my leadwerks is steam edition.
  18. Hello, I am experiencing a problem when drawing a small image in-game: It is showing correctly in the editor, however, when I draw it in-game it looks awful. Drawing code (Context blend mode is set to alpha): Context::GetCurrent()->DrawImage(textureGrab, Window::GetCurrent()->GetWidth() / 2, Window::GetCurrent()->GetHeight() / 2); What am I doing wrong?
  19. Hello, I would like to create a cube but don't assign it to a variable like create unlimited, but i only found entity::copy... i have a cube that i want copied but it seems like i need somthing to copy it to. any solution? - Mex
  20. Hello, I tried to find something for deactivating lights but no function (everything outdated in internet) so i tried using: light->SetRange(0 - 10); but i think i need to rerender the light? is that possible? - Mex
  21. Hello Community, I would like to create decals where i 'shoot' with mouse 1. But I only found: http://www.leadwerks.com/wiki/index.php?title=CreateDecal but there is no example for C++ and no syntax Anyone got a solution -Mex

    C++ and Lua

Is there any documentation somewhere about how to use C++ and Lua together? What I'd like to know is (from a C++ point of view, basically I use empty Lua scripts just as placeholder and then initialize my component system on scene load): how to know what is the script class that is attached to an entity in the scene (and if it's possible to set it at runtime) how to access to the members and methods attached to the script how to call C++ methods from a Lua script Thanks
  23. I can't seem to find any documentation for the NavMesh class, specifically the FindPath function. I need to check whether a path exists from an entity to a given point before invoking the GoToPoint method, and I was hoping I could use the FindPath method to do that. I thought perhaps FindPath would return NULL if a valid path did not exist, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Does anyone else know how to check if the path returned is valid, or is there some better way to do what I'm trying to do? Thanks!
  24. //I'm writing here because i have 'no permission' for the Programming section :? Hello, I'm new to Leadwerks and i'm now trying to create triggers with C++ I found many examples but either it's for C and in C++ not working or it's old or anything nothing has really worked for me :/ So i'm asking is anyone able to give me a good example of a trigger (trigger enter and leave is important) or good ideas? Thanks, Mex
  25. Is camera->Pick() supposed to work on LE3 Terrain? Or am I using the wrong method...
